PROP 65

There is a Prop 65 warning on some of Fable Food USA Inc.'s products because in 1986 California voters approved a law known as the Safe Drinking Water and Toxic Enforcement Act, better known as Proposition 65. Proposition 65 is a controversial California law that requires businesses to provide a warning label on products that contain any of over 800 chemicals, even when these chemicals are naturally occurring and found in amounts that are significantly below the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and World Health Organization (WHO) guidelines. Fable Food USA Inc.’s products are safe, but some are required under California law to have a labeling warning, since they include trace amounts of some compounds. Fable Food USA Inc. does not add these chemicals to its products. The low levels found in some of our products are a result of natural occurrence from how the ingredients were grown. Virtually all agricultural products contain chemicals and heavy metals found on the Prop 65 list.

These warnings do not indicate whether a product is “safe” or “unsafe” to consume. The thresholds that trigger a Prop 65 warning are far lower than the limits set by the FDA and other global food safety authorities. At Fable, we take food safety seriously and comply with all relevant food safety laws—we would never sell a product we believe is unsafe to consume.
